[Sept 12, 2002] Drall 1.8.0.0

Drall is a script which allows users to access their directories and files remotely without the need of using insecure FTP and telnet. It enables the user to treat the remote file system as if it was on their local hard disk through a normal Web browser. The interface resembles the well known Norton Commander and Midnight Commander. Single or dual-panel views makes it easy to see an overview of the file system and the modular design means you only use the features you need. Drall is written in Perl for easy customization and expansion.

FC Version 2.20 was released April 2002.

A simple HTML filemanager for Apache (Perl)

About: The Apache::FileManager module is . It provides file manipulations such as cut, copy, paste, delete, rename, extract archive, create directory, and upload files. The interface is clean and simple, and configuration is a breeze.

[Jun 18, 2002] Not A Commander - a better rip-off of Norton Commander(tm) by Sergey Babkin

This project's purpose is a file manager for X11 with the user interface inspired by the Norton Commander (tm). Unlike the other NC clones, I try to keep the interaction with the command line unimpeded and transparent. I also try to do things more in the Unix way. The development is going in the Way of Natural Stupidity: first get something working and then add the features and refine the design. The main architectural goal is to keep the architecture flexible and make future changes easy.

The current state of development is "alpha": at least all the basic features are implemented in at least a basic way.

Read about how to Make Your X11 Look Like The Text Console

Look at the project from the hight of the first anniversary. (Updated on Oct 11, 2001).

My article about the Tk geometry managers written in Tcl was printed in the October 2001 issue of ;login:, the Usenix association magazine. This article is a direct result of experiences with NAC.

version 4.5.55 was buggy (Andrew Samoilov patches helped a bit, but still...).  This one is seems to be much better. Macros from the command line does not work properly ( try "cd %D" it should change to the directory of the unactive panel, but that it will not; Ctrl-x-p works).

mc-cdrtools by Sami Lempinen

This utility contains four user menu entries for manipulating CD-Rs:

They are quite handy for quickly moving stuff over to a CD-R.

Note that mkisofs and cdrecord are required. You may want to edit the entries to suit your taste for the command line options for mkisofs, write speed and SCSI unit for cdrecord etc.

It's very convenient to move file from Windows to Unix using Far ftp. But right now more and more sysadmins close ftp and use ssh/scp instead.  This module is scp plug-in for FAR. It works via pscp/plink.
One can not only copy and edit files, but to execute Unix commands as well.
