Alla Pugacheva - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alla Pugacheva was born Alla Borisovna Pugacheva on April 15, 1949, in Moscow, Russia. Her father, named Boris Mikhailovich Pugachev, was a shoe factory manager in the city of Taldom, Russia. Her mother, named Zinaida Arkhipovna (nee Odegova), was a housewife. She has a junior brother, named Evgeni Borisovich Pugachev.

Pugacheva is one of Russia most popular and long-living on the stage stars. In 1975 she won the Bulgarian Golden Orpheus Award, which brought her moderate success. Her victory at Poland's 1978 Sopot International Song Festival with the song "Kings Can Do Everything," however, was the turning point in her career, giving her instant fame. Her popularity skyrocketed, and Pugacheva released many albums throughout the years.

Alla Pugacheva has been the indisputable leader in record sales in the USSR and in Russia, having sold over 100 million albums and singles during her career. She was bestowed the title of People's Artist of the U.S.S.R., the most prestigious award that could be received by Soviet artists, in 1991, shortly before the country collapsed.

Her daughter from the first marriage, named Kristina Orbakaite, is a popular singer and actress in Russia. Pugacheva currently resides in Moscow, Russia.

The best period of Pugachove singing career was when she works with Resnik and Pauls.

While at the beginning she introduced some anti-establishment elements into the genre (for example she never sing "viva communist party" type of songs) later during her career she became an etalon of vulgar, aging prima-donna, the symbol of cronyism. See Андрей Архангельский Молчание о Пугачевой. Here is one typical comment in a Russian blog e-dikiy.livejournal.com

She officially stopped her concert program in 2009 but in reality continued it...
