The following issues and limitations are known to exist in Quest Central for Microsoft:
Manage Registry Entries Wizard
o Quest Central for Oracle/Databases and Quest Central for Microsoft cannot be installed on the same system.
Back to Issues and Limitations
o Clusters are not supported.
o When using Windows XP, you must install Quest Central for Microsoft again for every user.
o Quest Central for Microsoft is not compatible with FastLane Reporter 5.0.2 and earlier. Users of Reporter v5.0.2 and below will require upgrading to the latest Reporter version.
o Quest Central for Microsoft is not compatible with FastLane Active Roles 5.0.4 and earlier. Users of Active Roles v5.0.4 and below will require upgrading to the latest Active Roles version.
o For performance reasons, connecting to a global catalog or domain controller over a slow link is not recommended. Connect to a local server when possible.
o If you try to close a new window without activating it, and you click on any node in the console window, a catastrophic failure message appears. You must restart the console to rectify this problem.
o Alternate credentials are not used when launching the Spotlight Console or Topology Viewer.
o Spotlight on Exchange Topology Viewer will not auto-connect to the organization in context. You must manually select the organization to which you want to connect within the Topology Viewer.
Back to Issues and Limitations
o In this version of Quest Central for Microsoft, you can only connect to Active Directory domains that are in the same forest as the local computer. To manage a domain outside the current forest, install Quest Central for Microsoft on a computer in the other forest.
o You may experience problems with the display of your icons and domains if the logon domain controller for your client system is located over a slow link.
o The output window may report an exception error after creating an NT user and specifying Log On To computers. As a result, some user properties may not get set.
o The Manage Services Wizard will not use alternate credentials when generating the service list.
Manage Registry Entries Wizard
o When using the .reg file search method, alternate credentials are ignored. The wizard uses the credentials running Quest Central for Microsoft.
Monitor Registry and File System Activity
o You must pause monitoring when Autoscroll is turned on before performing an action on the selected object.
o When adding computers to the Tools | Monitor | Registry or File System nodes, alternate credentials are not used to install the monitoring service on the remote computers. The credentials running Quest Central for Microsoft are used instead.
o The Check DNS Records wizard inaccurately reports that Windows 2000 and Windows XP computers are missing DNS records, for example, it may report an IP Address conflict as a missing DNS record.
o If multi-selecting items in the listview, using the actions from the menu bar will only apply to a single item within the selection. Using the actions from the Assistant and the shortcuts menu will behave as expected.
o When selecting objects in the listview, the cursor occasionally changes to a drag-and-drop state. Click again to exit this state.
o Icons occasionally display incorrectly.
o A manual refresh may be required to update the listview after performing an action on an item that changes the objects that are displayed in the listview.
o The '?' wildcard cannot be used when searching for Windows NT and Active Directory objects.
o When searching for printers by name on a selected computer, it is necessary to place a * before the search string.
o Searching using the scope "All", will only search within the node that you have selected instead of all of the nodes.
o In some instances, an access denied message is not provided when attempting to perform actions on an object that you do not have access to administer.
o Users running Quest Central for Microsoft with read-only access will not be able to view the data on the computer tabs when a computer is selected in the listview.
o Deleting a subnet that is in the process of validating may cause Quest Central for Microsoft to close.
o The "Manage" action available on computers does not use any specified alternate credentials.
Back to Issues and Limitations
o You cannot search for services on an Exchange server by searching from within the Exchange tree. Use the Active Directory node to perform the search.
o If the global catalog selected to connect to an organization becomes unavailable the organization will become inaccessible. In order to continue working, right-click the organization and click Change Connection Parameters, then select a different global catalog.
o The following actions are not supported when you are connecting to an Exchange organization using alternate credentials:
· Exchange 2000 Protocols/Virtual Servers/Queues
· Exchange 2000 Public Folders Hierarchy
· Exchange 5.5 Public Folders Hierarchy
· Exchange 2000 Public Folders Store (except MAPI Public Folders)
· Exchange 2000 Move Mailbox
· Exchange 2000 Create Mailbox
o You are unable to move Exchange 2000 mailboxes if you have Exchange 2003 Administrator installed. This is currently a known issue with Microsoft Exchange 2003 System Administration Tools.
o If Quest Central for Microsoft is installed on a Windows 2000 German client, the following actions will fail:
· Moving Exchange 5.5 mailboxes between Exchange 5.5 servers in a native 5.5 organization and in a mixed mode 2000 organization.
· Moving Exchange 2000 mailboxes between admin groups in a mixed mode 2000 organization.
o Deleting messages from Exchange 5.5 Conversion queues is not supported.
Active Directory Replication Interaction
o Until replication has occurred, the results from some actions will not appear in Quest Central for Microsoft after a refresh (F5) is performed.
o You are unable to save mailbox delivery restrictions if you have Windows 2003 System Administration Tools installed. This is currently a known issue with Microsoft 2003 System Administration Tools.
