[June 11, 1999] Norton Commander 2.0 -- Symantec implementation -- seems to be not so much different that v. 1.0, but cheaper ($56)...
KEY features
- NEW! Long File Names. Norton Commander now supports LFNs in DOS.
- Resizable panels allows you increase the size of a panel and choose between single, full- screen or traditional twin- panel views.
- Browse image files. Image files can be viewed as if they are directories.
- File compare. Quickly and easily compare the contents of two files.
- Configuration control. Colors and fonts are now fully configurable. Turn the Toolbar and pop-up menus on or off and instruct Norton Commander to behave either like Windows or traditional Norton Commander.
- File Filters. Enhanced mechanism for selecting files for operations such as copying and deleting. Also improved panel displays.
- File Splitter. Split large files for storage on multiple disks and remerge later.
- Directory Synchronization (essential for mobile users). Synchronize files between two directories either on your machine or between two machines linked together with Commander Link. (Not available under Windows NT.)
- Change File Attributes. You can change the attributes of files at a directory level. Useful when copying files from CD-ROM.
- Drag & Drop support is now extended to the Desktop.
- File Search. Norton Commander puts advanced file search capabilities at your fingertips.
- File Find Panel. Send your file search results to their own results▓ panel.
- Network Utilities. Attach and Map drives to servers with the click of a button. Send messages to other network users and monitor network usage.
- Compress files with a single keystroke, choosing from a variety of compression programs.*

FARPlus is a library of C++ classes greatly facilitating plug-in development for FAR. This project has been in "background priority" development for already a couple of years, and recently it has become mature enough, in my opinion, to be released to the general public. It is still far from finished, and the documentation is noticeably lacking, but this will hopefully be fixed in due course.
