Introduction

The Dell PowerEdge M1000e Enclosure is an attractive option for building small clusters. 16 blades are packed into 10U  enclosure. Each enclosure supports up to 16 blades

Up to 6 network & storage I/O interconnect modules.

A high speed passive midplane connects the server modules in the front and power, I/O, and management infrastructure in the rear of the enclosure.

I/O options support dual links of 20 Gigabits per second today (with 4x DDR InfiniBand) with future support of even higher bandwidth I/O devices when those technologies become available.

Thorough power management capabilities including delivering shared power to ensure full capacity of the power supplies available to all server modules

To understand the PowerEdge M1000e architecture, it is necessary to first define the term fabric.

Enclosure can be used with three form factor of blades, full size half size and the world’s only individually serviceable quarter-height blade. Enjoy remarkable computational density with the PowerEdge M420, capable of deploying 32 server nodes in just 10U of rack space. Scaling up to 16 processor cores and 192GB of RAM, each M420 couples processing power and memory capacity with tremendous I/O throughput, with up to four ports of 10Gb Ethernet available in an exceptionally compact, individually serviceable form factor. From entry and mid-tier business applications, to high node-count virtual environments, and even distributed workloads such as cloud or high-performance computing (HPC) environments, the M420 provides advantages for virtually
any data center where a large number of computational nodes need to be deployed in minimal space.

  • Infrastructure independent Persistent WWN/MAC/iSCSI address capabilities

     Resetting DRAC on blade

For blades reset from enclosure controller GUI: from  Chassis Overview  click Troubleshooting in horizontal menu, then click on Reset Components is the submenu (the third item in the submenu, next to Diagnostics ). Sometimes reset of enclosure controller helps too (it is duplicated).

Sometimes, the iDRAC requires a reset when the iDRAC card does not respond or if the database requires a cleanup, or to fix other issues. Chassis Management Controller allows you to reset the iDRAC without re-booting the operating system. This video shows the steps to perform an iDRAC reset without rebooting the OS using CMC Web interface and RACADM CLI.

If DRAC is still alive you can reboot it via ssh, or racadm.
