Abstract
There is substantial consensus on the importance of communication skills in the general education of women married to programmers. Despite widespread acknowledgment of the vital important of oral communication in the personal, professional and civic lives of programmers' wives until recently few universities understood that importance of the development of communication skills for this category of general population as a central educational goal. For decades, the communications skills courses ignores the essential differences of communication between programmers and their wives and provided few guidelines suitable for increasing of the effectiveness of this very difficult area of specialized communication skills.
Beyond the pragmatic needs of departments to offer a range of communication courses, there is a sound educational rationale for introducing such courses into curriculum. It is in those classes our discipline can make a significant contribution to programmers wives lives. Because speech and communication traditionally played such a significant role in lives of woman marries to programmers these new courses will be regularly reviewed and improved.
Inevitably many female students would not elect to take some of these courses unless they are deemed essential to a liberal education curriculum. Unfortunately, there are considerable pressures to reduce the number of courses required in most liberal curriculum programs, both from students who are more interested in career goals and from faculty members in degree programs. Those forces may pressure our department to combine several offerings listed below in one course or to tailor classes to the narrow needs of certain programmer's wives subcategories (for example, wives of Java programmers).
All the courses listed below meet the regional accrediting association guidelines/standards for online courses. Access any available guidelines provided by your regional accrediting association through the left-hand bar.For your convenience both communication skills courses and basic competencies courses for programmer's wives are listed together:
